The USA has never won consecutive gold medals at the IIHF World Juniors. Can it get it done this time?
Team USA won the prestigious tournament last year, defeating Sweden on its home ice, to claim its first gold since 2021 and sixth overall. Winning this year's title in Ottawa will be far from easy, though.
Leading the way for the red, white and blue are 10 players who helped the team win the 2024 championship, including Ryan Leonard, Zeev Buium, Oliver Moore, Danny Nelson and Gabe Perrault, who were named as captains for this year's tournament. It's a strong group of 25, and while the Americans are playing for something they've never accomplished before, this could be the group that gets it done.
“We’ve got tremendous leadership, which is important in a short tournament like this,” said David Carle, head coach of the U.S. National Junior Team and University of Denver.
To see the Americans go for gold on Canadian ice, here's how to get tickets for every game of the 2025 World Juniors.
