Taylor Swift Reveals the Real Meaning Behind 'The Tortured Poets Department' Songs

Taylor Swift truly doesn’t know how it gets better than this.

After all, the “Fortnight” singer’s 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, and her “Us” collab with Gracie Abrams, earned her six 2025 Grammy nominations—adding to her total of a whopping 52 nods—and she recently addressed her excitement toward the feat.

“You guys did something so amazing over the course of the last few months,” Taylor effused during her Nov. 14 Eras Tour show in Toronto, as seen in a video shared to social media. “I just mean what you did with embracing Tortured Poets Department, the album.”

Naturally, Taylor’s mention of her Grammy-nominated LP earned lots of cheers from the audience—and she went on to explain her process in creating her latest hit.

“This is truly blowing my mind,” Taylor continued, “because, it’s really emotional for me that this album—I wrote it during The Eras Tour. Like I wrote that album, made that album—all trying to keep it a secret from you guys. And then announced the album.”

Taylor—who has been dating Travis Kelce since last year—also lauded her Eras Tour team for crafting the new Tortured Poets act in her show before shifting her focus back to her fans.

“You guys have just been so wonderful about digging into this album and really understanding where I was coming from,” she added. “You made it by far the debut week I’ve ever had with an album and you kept that album at number one for nearly four months.”

Indeed, Taylor—who set a new record for the most Album of the Year nominations, totaling seven, with her latest nod—attributed her fans’ passion with her recent Grammys success.

“The most recent thing that you did,” Taylor noted. “Because everything that happens is a reflection of the passion you show—is you guys got this album nominated for six Grammys. It’s so wonderful. So thank you.”
