Syracuse, Steve Angeli get huge transfer portal news after Notre Dame decision

Syracuse may have just found its replacement for Kyle McCord.

Or the Orange have just created quite the quarterback controversy.

Either way, one thing is for sure: Steve Angeli is coming to SU. The former Notre Dame QB announced his transfer decision Wednesday evening on social media.

Angeli joins LSU transfer Rickie Collins in the quarterback room at Syracuse.

The highest-profile moment of Angeli's college career so far came in the CFP semifinal against Penn State, when he came on for an injured Riley Leonard and completed 6-of-7 passes for 44 yards.

In the last two seasons of spot duty, Angeli has completed more than 70 percent of his passes and thrown 10 touchdowns compared to a single interception.

The 6-foot-3 QB played high school ball at Bergen Catholic in New Jersey, where he was a three-star prospect.

It's a big transfer portal win for head coach Fran Brown, entering his second season after 10 wins in year number one.

McCord, the former Ohio State star who threw the ball all over the field for the Orange, is off to the NFL.

Angeli (and Collins) will be seeking to follow that same path.

It's a win-win for SU, which has two QBs from top programs now on campus to try and put together a big season. The Orange could be a legitimate dark horse for the CFP in Brown's second year.

For Angeli, it's a chance to make his mark.

And oh yeah, Syracuse plays at Notre Dame on Senior Day in South Bend. The scenes there could be something else.
