Syracuse Orange football coach Fran Brown breaks down SU’s QB competition between Steve Angeli, Rickie Collins

7 hours ago 1

There's a lot of hype surrounding the Syracuse football team heading into the 2025 season.

There's something still to be decided, though: Who will play quarterback?

SU brought in two transfers this offseason. Rickie Collins came in early, from LSU. And even after he arrived, the Orange still brought in Steve Angeli from Notre Dame.

They'll have a battle on their hands, and whoever wins will be expected to help Syracuse contend near the top of the ACC.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, head coach Fran Brown broke down the competition:

"I want champions on our football team," Brown said. "But for us, it's competitive all over. All right, no one's safe, right? For us, everybody's competing to play at every single position. We have guys that can compete to play. So if you decide not to compete that day, you might not be in the position you're in the next day."

That's a lot of coach speak, to be sure.

Collins exited the spring as the QB1, but this is probably far from over.

Whoever wins won't be a lock to keep the job the whole season, either.

Syracuse has to get this one right, though. The Orange's season depends on the correct decision.
