The Syracuse women's lacrosse program has taken on a new direction with the hiring of head coach Regy Thorpe.
One of Thorpe's first orders of business is a huge one.
Five-star recruit Peyton Rothfuss announced Saturday that she's flipping from Florida to Syracuse.
Rothfuss was previously committed to the Gators, where Thorpe was an assistant coach.
But earlier in June, SU named Thorpe its head coach, replacing Kayla Treanor, who left for Penn State.
And now with Thorpe on hand, the Orange have an incoming star from not far down the road.
Rothfuss stars at Penfield High School just east of Rochester, less than 90 minutes from SU.
As a junior this spring, Rothfuss scored 64 goals and had 38 assists for a total of 102 points.
According to The Daily Orange, Syracuse legend Emily Hawryschuk is Rothfuss' cousin.
The addition of Rothfuss makes up in part for a big recruiting loss. When Treanor left, 2026 No. 1 goalie Reagan O'Donovan followed her to the Nittany Lions.
Thorpe was previously with Syracuse as an assistant under Gary Gait, and now he's back hoping to raise the Orange back to top heights.
