The Syracuse Orange picked up a big addition on Tuesday, literally.
The 7-foot center Iker Martinez committed to join the Orange as an incoming member of the Class of 2026.
Martinez is a 19-year old center from Mexico.
He announced the news on his own social media:
Martinez has played at the top level of AAU basketball for AZ Compass Prep in the EYBL.
He has also suited up for the Mexican Under-17 national team.
Martinez had a fascinating offer list that included no other high-majors. He had scholarship opportunities from Cal State-Northridge, Sacramento State, Missouri-Kansas City and High Point.
Syracuse had a big hole at center after last season, vacated mainly by William Kyle III (graduation) but also be two transfers out of the program.
SU has since added three centers, including the newest Martinez, to try and hold down the interior for new head coach Gerry McNamara.
