The last World Cup Round of 16 match pits Colombia against upset-minded Switzerland on Tuesday in Vancouver. Both teams enter coming off impressive Round of 32 wins, starting with the Swiss, who outlasted Algeria 2-nil.

Johan Manzambi’s breakout continued as the 20-year-old set up Breel Embolo with a perfect pass in the 10th minute, giving Switzerland an early lead. Dan Ndoye then extended Nati’s lead to two with a strike in the 46th minute, sealing the win.

Colombia’s stifling defense continued as they recorded another clean sheet against the Black Stars. Jhon Arias found the back of the net on a great cross from Luis Suarez, and Los Cafeteros are now one win away from reaching the quarterfinals for the first time since 2014.

These two nations share a combination of steady defending and quick-twitch midfielders who can change the outcome of a game in the blink of an eye.

Colombia is a +130 favorite to win within 90 minutes, while the Swiss are +240, with a draw holding +210 odds on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Colombia vs. Switzerland World Cup prediction, best bets

If there was a dark horse to back to reach the semifinal, the Swiss at +500 would be an ideal pick. Switzerland has conceded only three goals all tournament, and their offense is textbook and methodical, targeting the left side of the field.

Manzambi has tallied three goals and two assists, despite starting the tournament on the bench. Embolo is a strong striker, and Murat Yakin’s side has not lost in four matches.

The only problem is that Colombia presents a difficult backline to score on, and they also have experienced, skilled playmakers in Luis Diaz and James Rodriguez, along with leading goalscorer Daniel Munoz.

Colombia can challenge defenses in multiple ways, averaging 28.5 precise long balls per game. Their attack produces 6.8 shots on target, ranking second only to France among the remaining teams in the field.

This match will come down to how well each team can disrupt the other’s game plan. The Swiss have a lot of momentum on their side, but their lack of a hallmark opponent within group play could be their downfall.

Los Cafeteros’ range of opponents has prepared them to excel in any atmosphere.

A gritty draw against Portugal, in addition to tough 1-nil wins over DR Congo and Ghana, proves how well Néstor Lorenzo’s side can handle adversity.

The slight edge would have to go to Colombia, but a draw after the first 45 minutes wouldn’t be surprising.
