Suns dump Kevin Durant to Western Conference rival in shocking deal

Are Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns headed for a divorce this summer?

It's the worst-kept secret in the world that future Hall of Famer, Kevin Durant wants out of Phoenix. The two-time NBA Champion was reportedly nearly traded back to the Golden State Warriors at the trade deadline, this past February, but was reported to have nixed the deal himself.

With many more options now on the table for Durant to find a new home in 2025 and beyond, it's likely that the Suns will be able to find a trade partner this summer.

The proposed deal (via Bleacher Report's Dan Favale) would see the Houston Rockets secure the services of the former NBA's Most Valuable Player in Durant, while not totally mortgaging their future...the Washington Wizards enter the deal to sweeten the pot, giving the Suns one of their future first-round selections back in return for multiple other selections as well as some veteran depth next to last year's second-overall pick, Alex Sarr.

Houston Rockets Receive: Kevin Durant

Phoenix Suns Receive: Jalen Green, Jabari Smith Jr., 2025 First-Round Pick (#10 overall), 2026 First-Round Pick (via Phoenix), 2027 First-Round Pick (via Phoenix)

Washington Wizards Receive: Jock Landale, 2025 First-Round Pick (#29 overall), 2029 First-Round Pick (least favorable of Cleveland, Minnesota, and Utah)

The Rockets finally get their go-to scorer that was severely lacking during their Game 7 loss against the Golden State Warriors in their opening round playoff series. It would be a huge get for the Rockets to not have to give up Amen Thompson, Alperen Sengun, Tari Eason, Cam Whitmore, or Reed Sheppard.

Meanwhile, the Suns would likely be all over this deal. They'd regain control of their future picks while adding some quality starters around Devin Booker in the form of Green and Smith Jr., while also securing a top-10 pick in this summer's NBA Draft.
