Sunderland welcome Everton to the Stadium of Light for a Premier League game this Monday evening.

Sunderland are currently riding high in 4th place, bucking the trend of promoted teams struggling in the Premier League. Everton, meanwhile, have slipped to 14th in recent weeks.

So can the Toffees pick up a much-needed win here or will Sunderland continue their strong run?

Sunderland vs Everton Head-to-Head and Key Numbers

  • Sunderland have not faced Everton since 2017, but they come in on a three-match losing run against the Toffees, who won their last visit to the Stadium of Light in 2016.
  • Sunderland are coming into this match on a two-game winning run, the latter of which was easily their biggest win of the season thus far. They defeated Chelsea 1-2 at Stamford Bridge with a late winner from Chemsdine Talbi.
  • Everton, meanwhile, were well beaten by Tottenham last week in a game that saw them lose for the first time at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. David Moyes' side have now lost their last two following a defeat to Manchester City the weekend prior.
  • While Sunderland have lost twice this season, they remain unbeaten at home, where they have picked up ten points from a possible 12 thus far. Moreover, they have only conceded two goals at home.
  • Everton also have a strong record at home, but on their travels, their results have been far more worrying. They have fallen to defeat in three of their four away matches to date, with their only win on the road coming over bottom side Wolves. They have also failed to score in two of those three defeats.

Sunderland vs Everton Prediction

Sunderland have undoubtedly been the Premier League's surprise package this season and they have also been in stellar form at home. Does that bode well for them here? It absolutely might.

Everton started the season well, but their form has dipped recently and they have not travelled well at all, with three away defeats thus far. More to the point, David Moyes' side have looked a little toothless recently, and only the bottom three have scored fewer goals.

Everton definitely have the ability to win this game, but with a likely raucous crowd against them, a home win definitely feels more feasible.

Prediction: Sunderland 2-1 Everton
