“We didn’t want to add more ‘spice noise’ in a landscape that challenges guests to ‘prove something’,” states Chef John Botelho. “We wanted to provide Canadians with a menu that perfectly fits their spice tolerance and preference. Our ‘Mild,’ ‘Wild,’ and ‘Wicked’ approach gives Canadians the chance to choose their own adventure, with sandwich builds that bring the heat and pack maximum flavour and freshness. For those who can’t break up with their classic order, you can punch it up by switching to Ghost Pepper Bread for a limited time.”

Spice Meets Self-Expression
Article content
To celebrate the new menu, Subway Canada has partnered with Canadian-born relationship and intimacy expert Shan Boodram to bring a fresh perspective on spice as a form of self-expression in dating.

Shan and Subway collaborated on a national survey exploring how Canadians view spice in relationships today:
Article content
- Some Canadians turn up the heat to impress: 1 in 10 Canadians admit they’ve pretended to like spicy food on a date, with younger adults most likely to do so.
- Spice can be a dating signal: Nearly half (46%) believe liking spicy food may be linked to enjoying excitement in relationships, showing how food preferences double as personality cues.
- Compromise is common at the table: More than 6 in 10 adjust spice levels when sharing meals, most often dialling flavours down to accommodate their significant other.
- Spice mirrors relationship dynamics: Many Canadians describe their current relationship as a balance of comfort and excitement, paralleling how they approach flavour – adventurous but not extreme.

“Dating can be fun and exciting but also challenging as people mask who they are and what they like,” states Shan Boodram, relationship and intimacy expert. “I’m excited to work with Subway to uncover how Canadians can keep things fresh and spicy not only with their food choices but also in their dating life.”
