No-win Witkoff
Despite the fact that I am and always will be an avid Trump supporter, I find myself agreeing with Douglas Murray’s negative opinion of Steve Witkoff ’s weak diplomatic skills (“Foreign policy failure,” PostOpinion, April 30).
He may be a superb real-estate negotiator, but dealing with murderous villains who have no regard for how many of their citizens are killed in order to achieve their goals is clearly beyond his pay grade.
In real estate, there is the profit motive that Witkoff understands and has expertise in, but diplomacy is a different ballgame — one in which he’s not capable of playing.
I cannot help wondering why Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the one Cabinet member who got the vote of every Senate Democrat during confirmation because of his demonstrated integrity, ability and experience, is not put in charge of these high-profile negotiations. He has ample experience dealing with these nefarious characters and will know how to negotiate with them.

RIP, Horowitz
After being raised by diehard communist parents, David Horowitz took up the mantle of radicalism, edited Ramparts (a radical magazine that was rooted in communism) and befriended Huey Newton, founder of the Black Panther Party in the 1970s (“Conservative commentator dead at 86,” April 30).
Horowitz grew disenchanted with the radical movement and founded Heterodoxy, a monthly journal combating the folly of the radical left’s political correctness. The goal of Horowitz’s Heterodoxy was to awaken conservatives to how vicious the political left is.
The conservative movement just lost a heavyweight. R.I.P., David Horowitz.

Don’s olive branch
Kudos to President Trump for inviting Gov. Gretchen Whitmer onstage to speak during his speech to the Michigan National Guard (“C’mon up here, Gretch,” April 30).
This shows that Republicans and Democrats can work together because there are more common-ground issues than the extreme wings of either party want to admit.
Maybe Congress can take a lesson from this and start working together on behalf of the American people.

Media ‘mistake’
In his White House Correspondents’ Association dinner speech, Axios correspondent Alex Thompson said that “we, myself included, missed a lot of this story” regarding President Joe Biden’s decline (“Fake Remorse,” Glenn Harlan Reynolds, PostOpinion, April 29).
He further states: “We should have done better.” This was no error. It was not a mistake. It was an intentional miss.
They knew what they were doing starting before the 2020 election. The only regret of these journalists is that they couldn’t keep this hoax going through Election Day 2024.

Cost of kids
President Trump’s recent idea to provide a $5,000 bonus to parents who have a baby is way out of touch (“Don’s family values,” April 23).
The cost of diapers and daycare is much, much than $5,000. The cost of clothing and medical care will drive couples to limit how many babies they have. The cost of a college education is fast approaching $400,000 per child.
The $5,000 bonus will not even see a couple past the first year of a baby’s life.
