Steve Nicol blasts Arsenal signing who has 'done zero' in the Premier League

2 hours ago 1

Arsenal’s summer signing Raheem Sterling has come under fire, with ESPN pundit Steve Nicol labeling him the signing who has done "absolutely nothing."

This bold claim has sparked debate among fans and experts alike, with some defending Sterling’s potential while others question his impact since joining the Gunners.

Sterling, who arrived at Arsenal on a last-minute loan deal from Chelsea, has had a slow start at the Emirates. In eight appearances, including just four starts, the winger has managed one goal.

Despite high expectations for his experience and skill, Nicol believes the 29-year-old has failed to deliver.

What Steve Nicol said?

Steve Nicol didn’t hold back when discussing Sterling’s contribution this season. “Let’s be honest, what has he done? He’s done zero,” Nicol said during an ESPN panel.

He argued that Sterling hasn’t provided the competition or spark Arsenal hoped for when signing him.

The former Liverpool defender continued, “At the very least, he should be giving Martinelli and Saka a break and pushing them to be better. But he’s done absolutely nothing. If you sign somebody and they do nothing, that’s not good.”

Nicol’s comments left some of his colleagues puzzled. Host Dan Thomas questioned Nicol’s choice, pointing out that Sterling’s limited role may have impacted his performances.

However, Nicol stood by his assessment, insisting that even in a supporting role, more was expected.

Sterling’s supporters speak out

Despite Nicol’s scathing critique, others have come to Sterling’s defense. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta recently described Sterling as “exceptional,” praising his attitude and potential.

Similarly, teammate Oleksandr Zinchenko called the winger “unstoppable” on his day, highlighting his ability to make a difference when in form.

Sterling’s struggles may also stem from adjusting to a new team and limited opportunities to make an impact. Arsenal fans are still hopeful that the winger can find his rhythm and contribute to the team’s success as the season progresses.

Arsenal faces Nottingham Forest next in what could be a crucial match for Sterling to prove his critics wrong. As the Gunners look to close the gap on league leaders Liverpool, all eyes will be on Sterling to see if he can rise to the occasion.
