The Golden State Warriors are a loss away from sinking all the way to the 10th seed in the Western Conference. Coach Steve Kerr and Co. have found it hard to close games against top contenders without Stephen Curry. But, the star guard is a big reason as to why they nearly won 110-107 against the New York Knicks. His return from injury could signal a huge run to clinch an outright NBA Playoffs spot.
Curry delivers on leadership despite injury woes
It has been 17 games and nearly two months since Curry last suited up for the Warriors. He has been ruled out because of runner's knee but continues to join the team on their road trips. One thing that he values more above all else is winning. So, the four-time NBA champion found a way to help his team despite their woes of because of his injury absence. Coach Kerr revealed that it was because of the star guard's support that they got so close against the Knicks, via ESPN.
"Just feels better when he's in the room. He was in our meeting today, he got a workout in this morning. So he's trending in the right direction and he's in good spirits, and just having him on the trip is important for our morale," the Warriors head coach declared.
Kerr has not had Curry play since the 30th of January against the Detroit Pistons. Since then, the Warriors have been patching up his production through committee. Gui Santos, Brandin Podziemski, LJ Cryer, and Gary Payton II have all played significant minutes to cover their veteran star guard's production. Curry is visibly seen giving insights at huddles and also shouting schemes at the sidelines to help his team.
Despite this important display of leadership, Curry is still very much missed on the court. He is expected to return either when the Warriors face the Brooklyn Nets or Washington Wizards. By that time, there will only be eight more games left in their regular season campaign. So, Coach Kerr really wants his player back on the court.
"He's just one of one and this is the longest stretch that I can remember being without him since I think it was 2020 when he missed the basically the whole season. So yeah, we miss him. We miss watching him," the Warriors coach added.
These intangibles have been the difference-maker in getting the Warriors close against top teams. Hopefully, they get Curry earlier than expected to ensure a postseason position without a need to go through the NBA Play-In Tournament.
