The San Antonio Spurs are now in the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2017. They beat the Minnesota Timberwolves in a huge beatdown in Game 6, and now, they have a date with destiny.
That will be a series against the defending champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder. They are the only team left in the Playoffs without a loss, so the Spurs will have their hands full in the WCF.
Stephon Castle feels the Spurs can pull off the upset against the Thunder
When the Spurs are being discussed, everyone will often talk about Victor Wembanyama. That is a valid way to look at the team because he is clearly their biggest star and best player.
However, he does have a fantastic supporting cast, and the team's second-best player so far has been sophomore guard Stephon Castle. The level-headed guard is excited for the next series, and he believes in his team and their ability to beat the Thunder.

The Spurs played against the Thunder five times in the 2025-26 season so far. That could be a big factor for this series because the Spurs have the formula to beat the defending champions, but postseason experience still matters.
Yes, the Spurs are now in the Western Conference Finals after years away from the Playoffs. However, Castle and the rest of the Spurs know they can beat the Thunder in a seven-game series.
"We're not even thinking about it right now. They've won eight straight, they're the defending champions. We know it’s gonna be tough to knock them off, but I think we’re pretty confident we could do it," Castle said in his interview after Game 6.
With Castle playing as well as he has recently, the Spurs could have an answer for the Thunder's perimeter players. It will be challenging, but the Spurs have proven they can hang with the Thunder.
