Matt Eberflus' arrival at the Dallas Cowboys was met with good eyes, even after his tumultuous tenure with the Chicago Bears. The Cowboys' defense struggled to remain competitive after Dan Quinn left for the Washington Commanders and Eberflus is off to a rough start with the "Lone Star."

After eight weeks and a 3-4-1 record, many fans are wondering whether Eberflus was the right choice to lead the Cowboys' defense. Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones shot down any rumors of a potential move for the coordinator. During an appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Jones said:

“(We hope) the situation is going to continue to evolve, which I know it will. Coach Eberflus has been a high-end coach. … I know right now he’s not satisfied with where we are. We all have to be better as a team, all our players, all our coaches, all our executives, ownership, everybody needs to look in the mirror and see where they can be better.”

Over the first eight weeks of competition, the Cowboys have allowed a league-worst 2,185 yards passing and 20 touchdowns against the pass. On the ground, they have allowed 1,168 yards (29th in the league) and 10 touchdowns (27th), poor numbers for a team with aspirations to compete for a Super Bowl.

Dallas has allowed no less than 22 points during the season, even in their victories. The Cowboys have a strong offense, but their defense has put them in complex positions more than once.

Jerry Jones sends clear message on Matt Eberflus' future with Cowboys

Just like Stephen Jones, his father and Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones, made it clear that Matt Eberflus isn't going anywhere. A couple of weeks ago, Jones exhorted the team to play better and focus more on the defense.

"We got to do a really good job of building that throughout the whole defense ...so it's important that we just keep working, keep finding solutions (for) what works best for the guys that we have." “You can tweak defenses and make a dramatic difference. …We’ve had three different coordinators over the last three years. That’s my fault.”

He insisted that Matt Eberflus won't be going anywhere and shared his confidence in the coordinator.

“He will get there. He’s trying to eliminate those explosive plays. … We know Eberflus.”

The Cowboys will clash against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 9, hoping to reach the .500 mark.
