Stephen Curry makes impressive history in Warriors' opening night win vs. Lakers

Luka Doncic wasn’t the only player to make history on Tuesday night.

Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry etched his name into impressive history during the first game of his 17th NBA season.

“Steph Curry becomes the oldest guard in NBA history to score 20+ points in a season opener,” Polymarket Hoops stated on X/Twitter following the Los Angeles Lakers and Warriors’ opening night battle.

Curry hasn’t lost a step at age 37. By definition, Curry is no longer in his prime. However, he can still move without the ball, demand attention on the perimeter, and make game-sealing plays at an extraordinarily high level in his late 30s.

Curry, who didn’t get a chance to finish the 2025 postseason due to a Grade 1 calf strain, was his usual dynamic self against the Lakers in the Warriors’ 119-109 win, recording 23 points and four assists in 32 minutes.

The four-time NBA champion only drilled 33.3% of his threes, but a gifted shooter like Curry is bound to get hot from deep sooner than later and never look back.

If Curry thrives with the Dubs from start to finish and guides the organization to a top 5 finish in the Western Conference, he could very well become the oldest player in NBA history to win an MVP (Karl Malone was 35 when he earned the prestigious award).
