Steph Curry Gets Compared to Tom Brady by $2.3B NBA Owner over LeBron James

Steph Curry is in his 17th season in the NBA, and he looks as lethal as ever with his inimitable shooting and crisp off-ball movement. For one NBA owner, Curry deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as an all-time great whose greatness on the gridiron lasted many, many years.

In an interview with Ron Kroichick of San Francisco Chronicle, Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob compared his franchise player to a superstar synonymous with American football.

"He’s not going to play forever, though I do think he may play longer than we all think," Lacob told Kroichick. "He might be the Tom Brady of the NBA."

This is a loaded statement by Lacob, whose net worth is $2.3 billion as per Forbes. In the 2010s, Lacob and his fellow owner Peter Guber watched as Curry spearheaded the creation of a Warriors dynasty alongside Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. In 2022, Curry won his fourth NBA title and first-ever Finals MVP award after triumphing over the younger Boston Celtics duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Curry's sustained greatness isn't in question, but any conversation about longevity in the NBA has to involve his longtime rival LeBron James. By all indications, James is set to play a record-setting 23rd season. In just about every year that he's played, LBJ has made a case as the most dominant player in the league.

It's worth noting that Curry and James have four NBA championships apiece, along with a distinct set of individual accolades. Either of them is a good comparison to the highly decorated Brady, but it's no surprise that Lacob stayed loyal to his franchise's cornerstone by picking Curry over the King.

Another NBA player who has remained prolific for several years is Kevin Durant, who once teamed with Curry in Golden State. On Wednesday, Curry broke a tie with Durant to add one more milestone to his stacked resume.

By finishing with 46 points in the Warriors' win over the San Antonio Spurs, Curry surpassed Durant on the all-time list of NBA players with the most 40-point games.

Topping this list are Wilt Chamberlain (271 games), Michael Jordan (173 games), and Kobe Bryant (122 games).
