Stefanos Tsitsipas was recently in hot water in Greece after he was handed a €2000 fine for violating traffic regulations. However, Tsitsipas’ lawyer has reportedly stated that the tennis star's father, Apostolos, was the one responsible for the controversy.

In September earlier this year, Tsitsipas’ supercar was caught going at 210 km/hr on the Attiki Odos, well over the speed limit. At the time, several news outlets reported that the Greek star had been handed a €2000 time and a year-long driving ban.

However, the former World No.3’s lawyer has reportedly confirmed that he was not driving the car at the time of the incident, saying in an official statement (as quoted by SDNA),

“Stefanos Tsitsipas was never the driver of the vehicle in question. Although he is its owner, on the day in question he had ceded it to his father, Apostolos Tsitsipas, and therefore he was never caught driving or causing any kind of accident.”

The statement revealed that it was Tsitsipas’ father immediately took responsibility for the incident.

“The actual driver of the vehicle, namely his father, Apostolos Tsitsipas, immediately appeared before the competent authorities, in order to impose the sanctions provided for by law, and he equally immediately accepted the responsibility that was appropriate for his act, at the same time presenting all the documents required by law, which prove explicitly, unwaveringly and undoubtedly that he was the driver of the vehicle on the above date.”

Tsitsipas' lawyer went on to slam all ‘inaccurate’ and ‘slanderous’ reports that have circulated about the tennis star in the last few months.

Stefanos Tsitsipas experienced a difficult 2025 season. The tennis star kicked off his year with a first round exit at the Australian Open. Except for a title finish at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships in February, this form followed the Greek star throughout the year, with his best performance at Grand Slam events being a second round appearance at the French Open and the US Open.

Recently, as he gears up for his 2026 season, Tsitsipas penned a cryptic note on X, writing,

“Tennis doesn’t test your talent. It tests your willingness to keep showing up when it disappears.”

Stefanos Tsitsipas is scheduled to kick off his 2026 season with an appearance at the United Cup. The tournament is slated to take place between January 2 and 11 and will feature some of the world's best players in action.
