The Pittsburgh Steelers are perennial contenders, or at least they try to be.
That's why no one has questioned their pursuit of the 41-year old Aaron Rodgers. It's why everyone expects them to sign T.J. Watt to a massive contract extension soon enough.
But one Steelers great thinks they should take a different approach this time.
“They should want to lose,” ESPN's Ryan Clark said. “I know this goes against everything that’s black and yellow. But they’ve been a competitive team for the entire time that Mike Tomlin has been there. But since Ben Roethlisberger got to like the last two or three years of his career, they were not a championship contender.”

For the Steelers to take that approach, they'd likely have to shun Rodgers in favor of Mason Rudolph or sixth-round rookie Will Howard.
They could also embrace losing by trading Watt for a huge haul of future picks.
The 2026 draft does present a strong QB class, potentially a chance to build for the future in Pittsburgh.
Clark, of course, is just on TV and wouldn't have his job on the line after a tough season.
And Mike Tomlin isn't exactly known for losing football games too often.
But it's certainly a contrarian suggestion from Clark to his former team.
