Steelers trade prediction from Gerry Dulac would amount to terrible mistake by Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Steelers need to add a wide receiver before the NFL trade deadline passes on Nov. 4 — but not just any wide receiver.

Hopefully, the Steelers have learned their lesson after bringing in Mike Williams last season. Pittsburgh acquired Williams at the trade deadline even though there were major red flags and he ended up being a huge disappointment.

If general manager Omar Khan brings in much-needed help for DK Metcalf and Aaron Rodgers, he has to aim higher this time around. Think guys like Jakobi Meyers and Chris Olave, for example.

But Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette doesn't think that's going to happen. Instead, he predicts the Steelers will bring in "the equivalent of Mike Williams."

"I think if you see them go get a wide receiver, it’s gonna be the equivalent of Mike Williams — what they did last year,” Dulac said of the DVE Morning Show. “If something would happen to DK Metcalf now, it’s a whole other ball game. I don’t know that they’re actively pursuing it, but I can tell you, they’re always looking.”

Please, no.

Unfortunately, there is already smoke to the idea that the Steelers could do just that.

Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan shared a rumor that said the Steelers have both Tyler Lockett and Brandin Cooks on their radar.

"Rumor: 2 WRs on the Steelers radar who will get traded for peanuts at the NFL trade deadline are veteran wideouts Brandon Cooks and Tyler Lockett," Fillipponi wrote. "Given Aaron Rodgers penchant for professional route runners who will be in the right place at the right time both would be fits."

Cooks, 32, is currently with the New Orleans Saints and has just 127 yards in seven games. Granted, he's stuck on a bad offense, but Cooks' numbers have been declining for multiple seasons now.

Lockett, 33, has also been stuck in a bad offense in Tennessee and has just 70 yards in seven contests. But, like Cooks, Lockett has shown clear signs of decline for a few years now.

The only good thing about Lockett is that the Steelers won't have to trade for him any longer, as the Titans are set to release the veteran receiver, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The only way we wouldn't mind an addition of Lockett is if he comes in tandem with a better receiver. He would be a nice depth piece, but Lockett isn't going to solve Pittsburgh's need and could very well be Mike Williams 2.0.

The same is likely with Cooks.
