Steelers reportedly have NFC suitor for Joey Porter Jr. after relationship takes big hit

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been attempting to figure out a contract with Joey Porter Jr. throughout the entire offseason and now into the regular season. Nothing has been resolved, and his future with the organization remains in question.

The Steelers played the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday, winning by a touchdown. However, Porter did not play in the game due to an injury and the ongoing contract stalemate.

“Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr., who has been embroiled in a contract dispute all summer, will not play Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons because of a back injury, and the possibility of a trade remains in play. The Steelers officially listed Porter as inactive for Sunday's season opener, and the situation continues to raise questions about his future in Pittsburgh,” ESPN’s Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter wrote.

On Thursday, more details in the saga between Pittsburgh and Porter were revealed. It seems like the relationship between the two is officially on the decline.

“Thursday night, some close to the situation sensed a fracture in the relationship between Porter and the organization," ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Brooke Pryor wrote.

Porter doesn’t seem to have much of a future with the Steelers left. NFL writer Jeff Risdon revealed that the Detroit Lions have been in contact with Pittsburgh regarding Porter.

“I can tell you that I know that the Lions have approached the Steelers," Risdon said. "I don't know how receptive the Steelers were. I don't know what the Lions offered, if anything. I know that they have talked. I got that from a reliable source from the Pittsburgh side."

The Lions' defense was abysmal in the first half on Thursday night, as they allowed the Buffalo Bills to score 27 points. There is still time to fix it, and getting Porter would definitely help.

If Detroit is willing to give Porter the money he wants, the deal would make sense for them to make. Porter would help the struggling Lions secondary, giving them some hope after a sluggish start to the season.
