Steelers pursuit of Aaron Rodgers could get wrecked by George Pickens trade with Cowboys

The Pittsburgh Steelers are now back to square one at the wide receiver position after the George Pickens trade with the Dallas Cowboys, and that could possibly wreck the team's pursuit of Aaron Rodgers.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Steelers are sending Pickens to Dallas in a move that will net Pittsburgh a third-round pick, and the two teams will swap late-round picks, also.

While it was always thought to be a possibility given his contract situation and bad attitude, trading Pickens now leaves the Steelers in the same boat they just climbed out of after trading for DK Metcalf.

Pittsburgh was in the market for a wide receiver upgrade ever since the team traded away Diontae Johnson last offseason. Steelers fans thought they'd be watching an impressive duo in Pickens and Metcalf in 2025, but that dream is dead now.

Will Steelers trade hurt Aaron Rodgers pursuit?

One has to immediately wonder if this will hurt the Steelers' chances of landing Aaron Rodgers, who remains undecided between retirement and playing in 2025.

Just hours ago, Rodgers had the prospect of throwing to a potentially elite one-two punch in Pickens and Metcalf, which was no doubt an intriguing situation for him.

But now he's left with Metcalf and a slew of question marks that make Pittsburgh look a lot less attractive.

Behind Metcalf, the Steelers have Calvin Austin, Roman Wilson, Robert Woods, Ben Skowronek and Scotty Miller. None of those players are adequate No. 2 options for Pittsburgh to enter the season with.

When it comes to free-agent options, Keenan Allen and Amari Cooper are easily the best options, but both are north of 30 and are coming off down years, so they aren't guaranteed to be the answer the Steelers need.

Of course, for quarterbacks, who they're throwing the ball to is crucial and Rodgers cannot like what's left in Pittsburgh. The Steelers need to remedy this situation fast or else Rodgers might decide Pittsburgh just isn't for him anymore.
