The Pittsburgh Steelers are about to kick off training camp in what many believe could be the final season of Aaron Rodgers’ NFL career. While Rodgers has enjoyed an illustrious run as one of the league’s top quarterbacks, he appears to be coming to terms with the reality that his playing days are nearing their end.
During his free agency process, however, some questioned whether Rodgers was still fully committed to football.
“Then Aaron Rodgers obviously isn’t serious about playing football,” former NFL wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson said. “And he’s not serious about his teammates rallying around him if he’s not at OTA’s.”
ESPN’s Ryan Clark voiced skepticism over the Steelers acquiring Rodgers as a one-year rental, warning that it could cost the team a shot at a top quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft.
“Aaron Rodgers signing with the Steelers is the worse case scenario. I think he’ll play good enough, & the team will be just good enough to miss out on a franchise guy next year! One of the greatest players of the era, & one of its greatest head coaches… just years too late,” Clark said.
Danielle Dudas, the owner of a store selling Rodgers-themed merchandise, says not all customers are buying the shirts with good intentions.

“Some people are like, ‘I want a shirt just so I can burn it,’” Dudas told Joe Lister.
That sentiment reflects a broader doubt among the fanbase. Even many Steelers fans don’t seem sold on the aging quarterback as a real solution.
“The point for now is that plenty of Steelers fans remain skeptical. If he plays well, they’ll come around. If he doesn’t, they’ll get loud,” wrote Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio.
There’s no question—Rodgers faces major pressure this season. If he underperforms, backlash from the Pittsburgh faithful could be swift and intense. And based on early reactions, setting fire to a jersey may just be one of the more symbolic responses in store.
