Steelers' Drew Allar compared to Ravens' Super Bowl champion

The Pittsburgh Steelers decided they needed a quarterback, and so midway through the 2026 NFL Draft, they chose Drew Allar out of Penn State.

There are no guarantees that Allar plays this season, or that he starts down the road, but he's definitely got talent.

Before the 2025 college football season, Allar was viewed as a possible first-round pick. Then the Nittany Lions had a nightmare season, and Allar was hurt to cut his campaign short.

Still, the Steelers clearly believed in him.

Part of the reason? He reminds them of a certain Baltimore Ravens QB who won a Super Bowl.

"Pittsburgh believes Allar has similar arm talent to a young Joe Flacco," ESPN's Jeremy Fowler wrote in a new article on Thursday.

That's a fascinating comparison on a number of levels.

Flacco was a first-round pick, but he had his doubters because he was coming out of FCS Delaware.

The Ravens gave Flacco his chance right away and he showed that he could handle the NFL. There were just some throws he could make that most QBs couldn't make.

It's a big compliment to compare Allar's arm to Flacco's, because even nearly two decades later, Flacco can still sling it around the yard.

If the Steelers ended up with a ring because they picked Allar, it would certainly go down as one of the best draft picks they've made.
