Steelers-Chiefs trade pitch would make sense for Kansas City but not for Pittsburgh

After multiple years of searching, the Pittsburgh Steelers have finally landed the No. 2 wide receiver they needed.

That No. 2 wide receiver is Michael Pittman Jr., who was acquired in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts, who dumped the veteran after signing fellow wideout Alec Pierce to a lucrative, long-term deal.

But Bleacher Report's Moe Moton already thinks the Steelers might be willing to blow that duo up before it even hits the field.

In what is a bizarre suggestion, Moton proposes a trade between the Kansas City Chiefs and Steelers that would send DK Metcalf to Kansas City.

Here's Moton's logic behind such a deal:

Metcalf's down year, coupled with his display of immaturity, may result in his departure following the Steelers' trade for Michael Pittman Jr. Pittsburgh could keep both, but Metcalf may want a new deal with no guaranteed money remaining on his contract.

If the Steelers are hesitant to rework Metcalf's contract, they could trade him, and the Kansas City Chiefs would be a logical suitor.

This trade would make sense for Kansas City, a team in need of more help at wide receiver.

Xavier Worthy was a big disappointment last season and Rashee Rice is now under investigation by the NFL over domestic violence allegations, which leaves the door open for a suspension if the league finds wrongdoing.

Adding to that, Marquise Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster are both free agents.

This trade would make zero sense for the Steelers, though, unless Metcalf holds out and doesn't plan on playing in 2026 because of the aforementioned guaranteed money issue. We do not see that happening.

Yes, Metcalf had a down season, and yes, he made a boneheaded decision that got him suspended after an altercation with a Detroit Lions fan.

But the fact of the matter is the Steelers need him. Pittsburgh has sported one of the worst wide receivers rooms in the NFL in each of the past two seasons and that has greatly hindered its offense.

Trading Metcalf puts Pittsburgh right back in the same boat and would decrease its chances of getting over the hump to a playoff win.

If the Steelers were hitting the reset button in 2026, we could see this kind of trade going down. But they clearly aren't, so there's no chance Pittsburgh deals Metcalf.
