The Pittsburgh Steelers are set to lose quarterback Aaron Rodgers to retirement after the 2025 season, but one NFL analyst believes another key Steelers player is entering his final year in the league.
CBS Sports' Tyler Sullivan predicts superstar defensive tackle Cameron Heyward will call it a career after the 2025 campaign.
"Despite being under contract through 2026, however, there are no guarantees in Heyward's deal beyond this coming season. It's possible Heyward could look at this one-season stint with Rodgers as his last kick at the can as well before retiring with another QB reset on the horizon for Pittsburgh," Sullivan wrote.
Heyward is entering his 15th season in the NFL, all with the Steelers. The 36-year-old has been selected to seven Pro Bowls, earned four first-team All-Pro nods, and has tallied three double-digit sack campaigns.
Heyward posted eight sacks and 56 quarterback pressures with 12 tackles for loss in 2024. The Ohio State standout also played all 17 games for the third time in four years.
With Heyward getting older and only having two years left on his contract, he could decide to retire in the foreseeable future, especially if the Steelers aren't in a realistic position to compete for championships. However, the future Hall of Famer is still playing at a high level and could be seeking one last lucrative deal before retiring.
