Stan Wawrinka and Arthur Rinderknech will open their 2026 campaign with a round-robin encounter at the United Cup when Switzerland takes on France.

Rinderknech comes into the new year fresh off a career-best season in 2025. Not only did he posted his best results at Grand Slams including Wimbledon (third round) and US Open (fourth round), he also reached his biggest final at the Shanghai Masters final.

The Frenchman is sitting at a career-high ranking of No. 27 in the world and will look to start the season on a winning note.

Wawrinka, meanwhile, could manage only sporadic play in 2025 given his struggles with injuries. With his ranking witnessing a steep decline, he mostly relied on wildcards to events. He received entry into the main draws at both Wimbledon and the US Open but could not win any matches.

The Swiss did post a win at the Tiriac Open, where he was also a wildcard, becoming just the third 40-year-old to win a clay match since 1980. Playing in his final year on Tour, the three-time Slam winner will be hopeful of posting some solid results.

During his heyday, Stan Wawrinka possessed one of the most complete games on Tour. His three Slam titles on three different surfaces is testament to his adaptability.

That said, the Swiss has lost the sting on his groundstrokes. He is still likely to win a fair few points behind serve and in quicker rallies, but could struggle in the more physical baseline exchanges.

Arthur Rinderknech has been playing some of his best tennis of late and will come into contest pumped. Much like Wawrinka, he too possess a big serve that will neutralize his opponent's strength. He is the by far the fitter player and after some initial rust, should be able to steamroll through the encounter.
