The St. Louis Cardinals have a big decision to make next month.
With the 2025 MLB Draft quickly approaching, the Cardinals are thinking about what to do with the No. 5 overall pick in this year’s draft.
While the Cardinals already have a starting shortstop in Masyn Winn, Kiley McDaniel predicts that the Cardinals take shortstop JoJo Parker out of Purvis High School in Mississippi with the fifth pick.
McDaniel believes that the consensus on who to draft will be opened up right around where the Cardinals select. But what makes McDaniel feel like St. Louis will take Parker is his hitting.
“If Anderson, Arnold and Holliday are gone, this pick is seen as likely to be a position player -- probably the one the Cards think has the best hit tool of the group. Parker would most likely come with some (but not a lot of) savings if he went here and, of late, he has momentum to sneak ahead of Carlson and/or Willits. Some teams think Parker is actually the best hitter in the draft,” McDaniel wrote.
It seems that if the Cardinals do select Parker, it would not be as much as a reason to replace Winn but more so to get a hitter with power into their lineup in the future.
In his senior season, Parker batted .465 and drove in 35 runs and hit 13 home runs in 37 games. If the Cardinals feel like Parker really is the best hitter in this year’s draft, it may end up being the right move to draft him.
