The San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Timberwolves face off in the second round of the NBA Playoffs to decide who will move on to the Western Conference Finals.
The Timberwolves are heading into this series a bit light, with guard Donte DiVincenzo missing the entirety of the series with a torn Achilles and star Anthony Edwards potentially slated to miss time with a hyperextended knee.
In his third season of NBA play, Victor Wembanyama has finally gotten a taste of playoff basketball. It's evident that he enjoys these games, after leading the Spurs to a 4-1 series win over the Portland Trail Blazers in the opening round. In the final two games against Portland, he averaged 6.5 blocks, along with 22 points, 13 rebounds, and three assists.
Minnesota needs Edwards to return as soon as possible to have a real shot of winning four games against the team with the league's second-best regular-season record. The emergence of Ayo Dosunmu has been a welcome sight to see for Timberwolves fans, but their X-factor this series will be Rudy Gobert. The 7-foot-1 Frenchman will be tasked with guarding his countryman Wembanyama. If he can limit his damage, the Timberwolves may be able to tread water for a bit.
During the season, the Timberwolves won two of their three matchups against the Spurs. San Antonio won the most recent meeting on January 17.
