Victor Wembanyama's sublime start to the 2025-26 season has taken the NBA world by storm, to put it mildly.
The San Antonio Spurs' All-Star center and rising superstar has ascended to newer, increasingly unfathomable heights in his third NBA season, making a compelling case as the arguable best player in the association.
As a result of his incredible first three games and the Spurs' perfect 3-0 start, Wembanyama was reportedly recognized by the league with an early-season award alongside the Milwaukee Bucks' 2-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.
"San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama and Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo have been named the Western and Eastern Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for Week 1 of the 2025-26 regular season," ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel shared via X/Twitter on Monday afternoon.
To claim recognition as the NBA's first Western Conference Player of the Week this season, Wembanyama had to outlast Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry, Los Angeles Lakers phenom Luke Dončić and the Oklahoma City Thunder's reigning 2025 MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
In his first three contests of the season, Wembanyama obliterated the box score with 33.3 points, 13.3 rebounds, 1.7 steals and a league-leading 6.0 blocks while shooting 56.9% from the field and 36.4% from three-point range on 3.7 attempts.
The Spurs' 7-foot-5 generational talent's season debut against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night kickstarted his race for both Player of the Week and league MVP, as he dominated 10-time All-Star Anthony Davis to finish with a 40-point, 15-rebound, three-block and zero-turnover performance in a blowout 125-92 win.
Heading into week No. 2 of the NBA season, Wembanyama will aim to keep his squad undefeated while boasting incomprehensible statistical figures, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
