The Philadelphia 76ers have some lofty expectations for the upcoming season. The team traded for NBA champion Jaylen Brown and signed four-time NBA champion LeBron James to create a powerful starting five.
The key for Philadelphia will be keeping everyone as healthy as possible and hoping Joel Embiid can return to being a dominant version of himself. The 76ers have plenty of expectations surrounding them over the next couple of seasons.
“You've got to acknowledge Philly's potential this season with the addition of James and Jaylen Brown, even if Embiid is not a good bet to play more than half the year or be in good form when the playoffs roll around. Brown, James and Tyrese Maxey will keep the Sixers highly relevant, but it'll probably take a miraculous turning back of the clock from Embiid to reach contender status,” Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes wrote.
Philadelphia made several more moves in free agency on Tuesday. The organization signed a trio of players to Exhibit 10 contracts, with the most notable name being seven-foot-six giant Tacko Fall.
“The Philadelphia 76ers have signed Tacko Fall, Jameer Nelson Jr. and Saint Thomas, the team announced. All three players are on Exhibit 10 deals, a source told ESPN, and will be a part of Sixers training camp,” ESPN's Dave McMenamin posted.
Fall is taller than young superstar Victor Wembanyama, which puts into perspective just how enormous he is. ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins even put the blame on Wembanyama for Philadelphia signing Fall.
“Wemby is to Blame for this move!!! 76ers definitely going all in,” Perkins posted.
Of course, Fall will first have to prove that he is worthy of earning a two-way contract. If he makes it through training camp, the 76ers could then explore some unique ways to utilize his size alongside the rest of the roster.
Wembanyama is no longer the tallest player in the NBA at this point. Using Perkins’ logic, if Wembanyama had never entered the league, Fall might not have a contract right now. Either way, Fall will be working his tail off for an opportunity, and it will ultimately be up to Philadelphia to decide whether he is the right fit.
