The San Antonio Spurs’ first-round pick Jayden Quaintance has successfully undergone surgery on his right knee. The Spurs officially announced the procedure and stated that they will share further updates when appropriate.
According to reports, the surgery is expected to address the lingering knee issues that have been causing him discomfort. However, the team has not provided a timeline for his return to basketball activities.
NBA insider Brett Siegel reported that Quaintance is expected to miss the start of the 2026-27 NBA season, with the Spurs currently believing he is unlikely to return until sometime in 2027.
“Jayden Quaintance will miss the start of the 2026-27 NBA season and the early expectation from the Spurs is that he won't be ready to return until some point in 2027, sources told,” Siegel wrote.
San Antonio selected Quaintance with the 20th overall pick in the first round of the NBA Draft. Before making the selection, the organization was already aware that he would require a second procedure to clean up his meniscus.
Quaintance first suffered a torn ACL in February 2025 during his freshman season at Arizona State. After transferring to Kentucky, persistent swelling and ongoing knee complications limited him to just four games during the 2025-26 college season before he tore his meniscus.
Prior to his series of knee injuries in college, Quaintance was widely regarded as a projected top-10 lottery pick. However, concerns surrounding his medical history ultimately caused him to fall to the late selection in the draft.
Despite those concerns, the Spurs' front office has chosen a patient recovery process over rushing him back onto the court. The team has consistently stressed that they are prioritizing Quaintance's long-term health and development.
