The San Antonio Spurs came so close to winning the NBA title, but they fell short in a tough series to the New York Knicks.
Budding NBA star Victor Wembanyama really led this team throughout the regular season and in the playoffs. The Spurs snagged him as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft, and it's really one of the smartest decisions that this franchise has made in its modern era.
Even though Wembanyama couldn't pull off a win, the future is bright. Now, the Spurs have a player who's being called a "player to watch" in the NBA Summer League, and he happens to also be the perfect Wembanyama complement.
Carter Bryant looking to show that he's still a perfect fit with Victor Wembanyama
The Spurs have released their 2026 NBA Summer League roster, and it features 2025 first-round pick Carter Bryant at the top, as well as the team's four selections from the 2026 NBA Draft, including Jayden Quaintance, Tarris Reed Jr., Ja'Kobi Gillespie and Maliq Brown. Emanuel Miller and Jayden Nunn, who both played for the Austin Spurs during the 2025-26 season, are also on the roster.
In a feature out on Wednesday naming 15 "players to watch" in the NBA Summer League, Bryant makes the cut. He's dubbed a player who could make a difference this season and someone who already fits perfectly with Wembanyama.
"After appearing in the NBA Finals in June as a rookie, Bryant returns to Summer League in July to continue working on his game as he enters his sophomore season in San Antonio," Brian Martin of the NBA's official website states. "Bryant's elite athleticism and ability to defend on the perimeter and knock down 3s make him a perfect complement to the Spurs’ young core of Victor Wembanyama, Dylan Harper and Stephon Castle."
The Spurs kick off their Summer League series on Thursday, July 9, against the Atlanta Hawks at the Thomas and Mack Center on the campus of UNLV.
