With one more win, the San Antonio Spurs can strut to the second round of the NBA Playoffs. Coach Mitch Johnson got Victor Wembanyama back and they breezed through the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 4. This 114-93 game was not at all close and it meant that a fair amount of records were broken.
Wembanyamam reaches insane NBA Playoffs heights by breaking Spurs records
After missing quite some time due to concussion protocol, Victor Wembanyama made his return in Game 4 against the Trail Blazers. Coach Mitch Johnson played him for 34 minutes and every single second was a marvel to watch. Wembanyama put up 27 points while knocking down 52.9% of his shots from the field and going 100% from the free throw line.
The Spurs superstar was, as usual, a menace on the defensive end of the court. He grabbed 11 rebounds, got an astounding seven blocks, and notched four steals. Wembanyama had an NBA Playoffs game-high plus-minus of +28. This meant a few records were broken due to his performance.
Wembanyama became the youngest Spurs player to ever register a seven-block game in the NBA Playoffs, per ESPN Insights. Tim Duncan was the last player of ever record that line in 2007, even then he was already a 10-year veteran while Wembanyama is just in his third year and first NBA Playoffs. Those 27 points, 11 rebounds, seven blocks, and four assists also got Wembanyama another record. He became the first player since Hakeem Olajuwon to have those statistics in the NBA Playoffs.
A single win will be what the Spurs need to advance in the second round of the NBA Playoffs. Will Coach Mitch Johnson see Wembanyama put up similar numbers against the Trail Blazers to get them there?
