Spurs fans think Victor Wembanyama is winning the title because of an unbelievable Stephen Curry reason

1 hour ago 3

Victor Wembanyama dominated the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday night. To NBA fans of a certain age, said domination felt a little too familiar.

Down 2-1 in the Western Conference finals, Wembanyama scored 33 points on 11-of-22 shooting -- including a half-court heave to beat the halftime buzzer. He added eight rebounds, five assists and two steals as the San Antonio Spurs stormed to a 103-82 win that evened the series at two games apiece.

On May 11, 2015, Stephen Curry walked into FedEx Forum as the top-seeded Golden State Warriors faced a 2-1 series deficit in the West semis against the Memphis Grizzlies. Curry went on to score 33 points on 11 of-22 shooting. He added eight rebounds, five assists and two steals as the Warriors thumped the Grizzlies, 101-84, to even the series.

This is the craziest coincidence in NBA history

11 years and 13 days ago, Steph Curry had the exact same statline as Wemby did, in the exact same scenario. Down 2-1 vs the Grizzlies, and went on to win the title https://t.co/4mXV3TF9R1

Golden State went on to defeat Memphis, four games to two, before eliminating the Houston Rockets and the Cleveland Cavaliers on their way to an NBA championship.

Spurs fans now are convinced that Wembanyama -- because of this freaky statistical coincidence -- is about to do the same thing.

"Both were down 2-1 and absolutely had to win," wrote @Wemby_France. "I'VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT

"Glad to know we are going to win the 2026 Finals," another fan posted.

San Antonio will have to win Game 5 on the road Wednesday in order to keep up the similarities.

But just as Curry was -- and is -- an era-defining talent with his own gravity, Wembanyama would prove that he is in the same class if he can lead the Spurs past the reigning champion Thunder.
