Spurs' Dylan Harper ties Kobe Bryant's all-time NBA record

It's tough to keep better basketball company than Kobe Bryant.

That's where San Antonio Spurs rookie Dylan Harper finds himself after his performance on Wednesday night.

First, the stats themselves from the Spurs' 110-107 win over the Raptors:

  • 15 points
  • 5 rebounds
  • 7 assists
  • 2 steals
  • 7-11 FG
  • 1-4 3FG
  • 0-2 FT
  • 1 turnover

Not perfect, but a very solid night in 29 minutes for Harper.

The stat of note here is that Harper put up his points and assists off the bench.

He has now tied Kobe for the most 15-point, 5-assist games off the bench by a teenager in NBA history, according to Real Sports.

Is that a rather arbitrary stat? Yep. Is it still cool to be tied with Kobe? Also yep.

Harper and Bryant had a chance at this stat specifically because their teams brought them off the bench at first. Anyone who started from day one couldn't chase this mark.

Coming off the bench early in his career obviously didn't set Bryant back. It likely won't set Harper back, either.

He's a second-generation NBA player, just like Bryant, and that can only help. So far, so good for Harper.
