The Kansas City Chiefs suffered a massive blow during Sunday's 16-13 loss against the Los Angeles Chargers as superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a season-ending injury.
While initial reports claimed that Mahomes suffered an ACL injury, the three-time Super Bowl MVP has also torn his LCL. Former San Diego Chargers team doctor, David J. Chao, shared his thoughts on Mahomes' latest setback.
"Patrick Mahomes underwent surgery tonight to repair his ACL," Chao wrote on X. "The timing and the surgeon who performed the surgery essentially confirm that he also tore his LCL, which makes his recovery more difficult."•

According to reports, Dallas orthopedic surgeon Dr. Dan Cooper performed surgery to repair Mahomes' ACL on Dec. 15. ESPN's Nate Taylor later reported that Cooper also performed surgery on Mahomes' torn LCL.

Following Patrick Mahomes' season-ending surgery, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport shared a potential timeline for the Chiefs quarterback's return, saying that Mahomes is unlikely to miss more than nine months.
“Patrick Mahomes also tore his LCL, along with his ACL, sources say. While that can complicate recovery, it doesn’t necessary extend his rehab longer than 9 months or so.” Rapoport wrote on X.The loss against the Chargers also eliminated the Chiefs from playoff contention. Despite Kansas City's underwhelming season, Mahomes put in solid numbers, rivaling other top quarterbacks in the league. The three-time Super Bowl MVP threw for 3,587 yards with 22 touchdowns before his injury.
Chiefs fans will be hoping for a fully recovered Mahomes for 2026 as Kansas City will look to bounce back after their disappointing season.
