Sports broadcasts provide no escape for viewers looking to avoid insult

It’s easy to blame television for all that lays us low and then lower. That’s the problem: It’s much too easy. Like adding one bad idea to another bad idea to make two bad ideas. 

Saturday, Disney’s ESPN and ABC wrapped up their annual mindless destruction of the Little League World Series with the Curacao-Nevada final. 

The Curacao team and their adult supporters were shown to be acting, on ESPN cue, like a gaggle of trained, flipper-flapping showboats as they added to an early lead that deprived Nevada’s supporters of returning unfriendly fire. 

In Curacao’s previous game, the ESPN crew, Karl Ravech, who bid farewell after a long career with the badly denuded “all sports” network, still-doesn’t-get-it Todd Frazier and ex-first-string bad idea Jessica Mendoza, marveled at Curacao’s starter for being “unafraid to throw first-pitch sliders.”
