While Marvel's live-action television slate is going through a bit of an overhaul, with Daredevil: Born Again wrapping up with Season 3 next year and VisionQuest closing out a trilogy of series that began with WandaVision, animation isn't going anywhere. The wildly popular X-Men '97 is locked in on a yearly release model, with Season 3 and 4 due out in 2027 and 2028. More recently, it was also announced that Marvel Zombies would be a regular presence at Halloween with new yearly specials starting in 2027. After nearly two full years of waiting, Disney+'s animated web-slinger is also looking to get on a yearly cadence as well.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is finally set to return in January and build on a freshman year for Peter Parker that was beloved by critics and audiences alike. However, it, too, is also renewed through Season 3, giving series creator Jeff Trammell and the team a chance to work ahead on the wall-crawler's next adventures. The hardest part of the job is technically done. Season 1 served to build up this alternate world inspired by both the MCU and the earliest Spider-Man comics, where Peter was mentored not by Iron Man, but Norman Osborn, who guides him through some of his earliest battles with Scorpion, Doc Ock, and more. With everything established, new threats percolating, and confidence from Disney, there's now room to start looking further into the future.
At New York Comic Con, Collider's Maggie Lovitt spoke to Trammell about Season 2 and the future of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, asking how far ahead he is with the show heading into Season 2. Unsurprisingly, Season 3 is already in progress to ensure the wait isn't as long as it was this time around, though there have been reports that Season 4 was also greenlit. Trammell directly confirmed that there was indeed progress being made on the next two seasons, even though an official renewal after Season 3 hasn't been announced by Marvel yet. "I don't know what I can say, and no one's stopping me, so I'm gonna say we're already working on Seasons 3 and 4 of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man," he revealed. That means this version of the wall-crawler could be sticking around for quite a while, so long as viewers keep tuning in.

REVEAL MY BEST FRIEND →
The Line Is Ringing Your Best Friend Is…
Four people, four completely different ideas of what it means to have somebody in your corner. Here is who picked up, what they would ask of you, and what you would get back.
Steve Rogers
You want the friend who does not leave. Steve is the one who turns up at the door without being asked, who remembers what you said you were worried about, and who has never once made you audition for his attention.
- His entire character is built on a single sentence, which is that he will not abandon somebody just because it has become expensive to keep them.
- He is far funnier than people give him credit for, and the joke is almost always at his own expense rather than yours.
- The friendship comes with a cost, since being close to Steve means being dragged into fights that were never yours and being glad about it later.
- You would get a friend who tells you the hard thing to your face and then defends you to everybody else in the room.
Tony Stark
You want the friend who is genuinely exhausting and completely worth it. Tony will forget your birthday, then build you something at four in the morning that you did not know you needed, and hand it over as though it were nothing.
- He is bad at saying the warm thing out loud, so he says it in hardware instead, which is why everybody around him ends up with upgraded everything.
- Being his friend means putting up with the disappearing, the deflecting and the jokes that arrive about ninety seconds too early.
- What you get in return is somebody who will spend an unreasonable amount of money and effort on a problem the moment it becomes yours.
- He is the loudest person in the room and the one most likely to be quietly panicking about all of you.
Peter Parker
You want the friend who replies in four seconds and apologises for it. Peter is earnest in a way that is almost unfashionable, and he will take on far more than he can carry rather than admit that he is struggling.
- He is the only one on this list who needs looking after as much as he looks after you, and that balance is exactly what makes it a real friendship.
- Nobody in the MCU is better at the small stuff, from remembering the thing you were nervous about to showing up with food you did not ask for.
- Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrived in July 2026 and put him back where he works best, which is broke, local and carrying the weight on his own.
- You would get a friend who is sincerely, embarrassingly happy for you when something goes right, with no edge to it at all.
Shuri
You want the friend who insults your shoes, fixes your phone and then quietly rearranges your entire life for the better. Shuri does not do soft reassurance, and that is the reason you would believe her when she says you are fine.
- She is the smartest person in almost any room she walks into and treats that as a reason to tease you rather than a reason to lecture you.
- The teasing is the affection. When Shuri stops making fun of you, something has gone seriously wrong and you should probably ask her about it.
- Her story is the one on this list that goes somewhere genuinely dark, which is what turned her from a scene stealer into the emotional centre of the films.
- You would get a friend who never pities you, never softens the truth, and never once lets you take yourself too seriously.
↻ RETAKE THE QUIZ
What's to Come in Season 2 of 'Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man'?
Season 1 of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man ended with a ton of teases for what's to come, but if the poster for Season 2 made anything clear, this is the year of Venom. A piece of symbiote was left behind following Spidey and Doctor Strange's battle with the alien that came through the portal opened by Norman's Project Monolith, setting up both Peter's iconic black suit and the symbiote's eventual host, Eddie Brock, who'll be voiced by Spider-Man veteran Josh Keaton. While that's front of mind, the series will also confront the big twist in the finale that Peter's dad, Richard, was actually alive and behind bars. Charlie Cox's Daredevil will also be among the many returning faces, while Gwen Stacy will be one of the biggest new additions, helping Spidey face the new threats ahead as Spider-Gwen.
Trammell confirmed they'll be "hitting the ground running" with answering the many questions Season 1 left behind, from Richard to Lonnie Lincoln's future as leader of the 110th, Harry Osborn's new company, and more. For the creator, there are a few characters he's particularly excited for viewers to see in action in Season 2, including, of course, Eddie and Venom.
"I'm really excited for people to see more from Nico Minoru this season. She's a big part of Season 2, and I think people are really going to dig what we're doing with her. Eddie Brock, I'm a huge Eddie Brock fan. It was announced Josh Keaton is playing Eddie Brock, so I'm excited for people to see what he's doing, as well as... Norman's up to some stuff that I'm really excited about as well."
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man returns for Season 2 on January 13. Stay tuned here at Collider for more news on the animated hit as it comes out. You can watch Lovitt's full conversation with Trammell above.
