Spain look to secure the top spot in Group H as they conclude 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage play with a showdown against a desperate Uruguay on Friday from Guadalajara.

La Roja sputtered to an opening round draw with Cape Verde, but with a healthy Lamine Yamal back and firing, they trounced Saudi Arabia in their second match to take command of the standings.

Uruguay, meanwhile, have played to two disappointing draws in their opening two games, meaning they need to win here to confirm their place in the knockout stage. A third draw might do the trick, but it will leave them on shaky ground needing to wait for the rest of the groups to finish up before they will know if they have a place in the Round of 32.

Yet a victory here for Uruguay would not only see them secure a knockout place, but it would mean Marcelo Bielsa's side would win the group, as everything remains on the table for the South American nation.

Prematch

3 p.m. ET: Having Lamine Yamal fully fit is of vital importance for Spain of course, but they will hope that Nico Williams will also be ready for his first start on the opposite flank. Those two players have developed a strong relationship playing on opposing wings, and while Lamine does most of the ball progression, having a player like Williams who can take some of the pressure off with ball progression of his own helps balance Spain's attack out and gives them multiple threats going forward.

They will hope that Williams can be fit enough to start this match after coming off the bench in the first two games.
