Sophie Cunningham throws shade at Angel Reese over Jalen Duren comments amid Wendell Carter Jr

Sophie Cunningham is giving her thoughts on Angel Reese's viral moment last month with her rumored ex, Jalen Duren, and current boyfriend, Wendell Carter Jr.

In the first round of the NBA Playoffs, Duren, who plays for the Detroit Pistons, and Carter Jr., who is on the Orlando Magic, faced one another. During Game 1 of their series, Carter Jr. dunked on Duren, which Reese uploaded the moment to her personal Instagram Story, and it went viral.

Duren and Reese were rumored to have dated briefly back in July and August 2024. But neither has confirmed the rumored fling. It was suggested they were dating after posting similar vacation videos and Reese repping the team's merch.

On Cunningham's podcast, Show Me Something, she shared her thoughts on the situation. After the producer shared the video, the Indiana Fever star responded: "Something had to have happened for [Reese] to keep, I don't know, wanting to embarrass him in some way."

Cunningham's co-host, West Wilson, rebutted, "Or nothing happened!"

"But then move on! Worry about the current boyfriend," Cunningham reacted. 

Reese has been dating since last year and started spreading romance rumors when he attended her 23rd birthday party in May. The Magic star confirmed their romance in November 2025 with FanDuel.

“Y’all gonna find out when y’all need to find out," he shared at the time. "We’ll just leave it at that. That’s my girl, though. We locked in for sure.”

While fans laughed at Reese's repost, Duren ultimately won the battle as the Pistons came back from being down 3-1 to the Magic and beat them in seven games. The Pistons are now facing the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Semifinals.
