Sophie Cunningham says other teams are lying about having the best crowd

Sophie Cunningham has never been one to hold back, and her latest comments show just that.

The Indiana Fever guard, now in her seventh WNBA season, made waves this week with a bold statement about her new home crowd. Speaking about her growing connection with Fever supporters, Cunningham made it clear she believes no fanbase compares to what she’s found in Indiana.

Sophie Cunningham calls out WNBA teams over Indiana Fever fans

“I think we have the best fans in the whole W,” Cunningham said. “I know every team says that, but they’re lying because I’m telling the truth. We have to protect our homecourt, and when we can fire up these fans, they’re feisty, they’re sassy, they’re kinda just like me.”

The comment came not long after Cunningham reached 1 million followers on TikTok, a reflection of her rising popularity this season. That surge in attention was fueled, in part, by her June 17 ejection during a game against the Connecticut Sun, when she was tossed for allegedly defending teammate Caitlin Clark.

Since joining the Fever this offseason, Cunningham has quickly become a fan favorite, not just as an enforcer but as a vocal leader on and off the court. Her fiery play and outspoken personality have made her a perfect fit in Indiana’s tough-minded lineup.

The Fever won’t return to Indianapolis until July 24 when they host the Las Vegas Aces, but first they’ll head into a tough road stretch. Indiana will play the Connecticut Sun and New York Liberty on back-to-back nights before facing the Liberty again in Brooklyn after the All-Star break.

Cunningham’s passion and pride in Indiana fans may help fuel that stretch. And if her words are any indication, she’s more than ready to keep fighting for the Fever.
