Eloise Gets an iPhone.
Sofia Richie Grainge has been lambasted by social media critics after she confirmed that her five-month-old daughter Eloise already has an iPhone.
The model, 26, spoke about her daughter, whom she shares with husband Elliot Grainge, on Thursday’s episode of the Therapuss podcast, hosted by social media personality Jake Shane.
Shane, 25, was the one to spill the beans that Eloise has a “little baby phone” of her own, and shared a text conversation he had with the infant — via proxy, that is.
“Eloise has a little baby phone, that we get to text, or I like to text,” Shane revealed.
“She does!” Richie confirmed, before Shane gave an example of what he likes to tell the young child. “I say, ‘Good morning, Eloise!'” he explained.
But much like many celebrity Instagram accounts, Eloise is not actually the one operating or in control of the phone.
“Whoever is with Eloise gets the phone,” Richie Grainge explained. “So, at that very moment, [friend] Ali [Meller] was sitting with Eloise.”
Shane then shared a message he sent Eloise’s phone on Thursday before the podcast recording.
“I said, ‘Eloise do you mind if me and your mommy talk about how perfect you are on the podcast today?’ And she said, ‘No, keep my name out of your mouth.’ And I said, ‘Eloise, excuse me.’ She said, ‘I hate you.’”
“We had a talking,” Richie Grainge responded wryly.
“Eloise has a little bit of an attitude,” Shane quipped back.
Some on the internet were horrified that baby Eloise already has a phone, though it’s unclear if the critics considered the nuance of the situation.
“This is horrible and psychotic,” one person posted on X.
“Unbelievable,” someone else wrote, while another said, “That is so sad and stupid! She is 5 months!” The commenter also included a GIF of comedian Steve Harvey saying, “Oh, you crazy” in their post.
Richie Grainge, daughter of singer Lionel Richie, and Elliot Grainge announced in January that they were expecting a baby.
“I found out very, very early,” Sofia told Vogue a the time. “I was about four weeks pregnant. I was on a trip to Milan for fashion week, and I was going to the Prada show. I was doing a really quick 24-hour turnaround, and I felt terrible but didn’t think much of it. I thought it was jet lag.”
The couple, who married in April 2023 at an opulent star-studded ceremony at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in the South of France, welcomed baby Eloise in May.
