With the 2025 WNBA season officially over, fans and players will be setting their sights on the second season of Unrivaled. While 48 WNBA stars will take part in the tournament, DiJonai Carrington is set to miss this year's campaign with an injury.
The Minnesota Lynx forward dropped her honest thoughts on missing season two of Unrivaled through X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday.
"💔💔💔 so sick about this but I know my God is cooking up somethin real special!!!🙏🏽 psalm 138:8," she expressed.According to Underdog WNBA, Carrington will miss season two due to a leg injury. After a stellar 2024 season where she was awarded the Most Improved Player award, the forward endured a topsy-turvy WNBA season this year.
Shipped to the Dallas Wings at the start of the season, Carrington played 20 games for the franchise before being traded to the Minnesota Lynx in August. She played 13 games for the Lynx before enduring an injury in Game 2 of the first round against the Golden State Valkyries.
The setback sidelined her for the remainder of the season and will now keep her out of season two of Unrivaled. Last year, she was a member of Breanna Stewart's Mist BC and played a crucial role as they finished fifth in the standings.
Carrington shared the court with her partner NaLyssa Smith, along with Jewell Lloyd, Aliyah Edwards, Courtney Vandersloot, and Rickea Jackson for the Mist BC.
While Carrington joins a long list of players missing out on season two due to injuries, there is excitement about the new campaign. With the addition of two expansion teams, Breeze BC and Hive BC, Unrivaled continues to expand its footprint, offering WNBA players a competitive platform during the offseason.
DiJonai Carrington joins the list of players sidelined for Season 2 as Unrivaled expands roster spots
Unrivaled released its list of players for Season 2 earlier this month, with the league adding 12 new roster spots due to the addition of two new teams. While the likes of Cameron Brink and Paige Bueckers will make their debut this term, there will be some big names missing from the tournament.
DiJonai Carrington was the latest star to pull out from the league due to an injury, joining a long list of players who are sidelined for Season 2. Among the most notable absentees is Chicago Sky standout Angel Reese, who will not return to defend her title with Rose BC after leading the team to the championship last year.
Kayla McBride and Sabrina Ionescu will be sitting out, too, as Unrivaled ushers in a fresh wave of talent with several new names joining the roster for the upcoming campaign.
