Even at 38 years old, Sidney Crosby came into the 2026 Winter Olympics as one of the focal points of the entire men's hockey tournament.
With NHL players returning to the Olympics, Crosby was one of the biggest names set to be on the ice for Canada, and as the captain of his squad, he was also pursuing the mark for most career points by a Canadian NHL player at the Olympics, which he claimed.
However, in Wednesday's quarterfinals matchup against Czechia, Crosby left the ice with an apparent injury, and he was later ruled out for the game. Canada went on to win, but Crosby's status moving forward remains uncertain.
Here's the latest on Crosby.

Sidney Crosby injury update
Canada will take on Finland on Friday, February 20. TSN's Ryan Rishaug reported that Crosby was able to get a morning skate in, but that he still remained doubtful for the game. The fact that he was able to skate though, gives optimism that he would be able to play in a gold medal game should Canada win.
Crosby took two big hits against Czechia, one against the glass between two opponents. After taking a hit from Radko Gudas, Crosby went to the bench in some pain.
He did not return to the game against Czechia, per Elliote Friedman, ruled out with a lower body injury.

Per Mollie Walker, it was Macklin Celebrini who replaced Crosby on Canada's power play soon afterward, which then led to a Nathan MacKinnon goal tying the matchup at two.
Postgame, Jon Cooper said he did not have an update on Crosby, but did say that the star's injury was motivation for the rest of Team Canada, hoping to help him play in another game.
Jon Cooper didn’t have an update on Crosby but he did say much of the talk in the room in the 2nd intermission among the players was:
“This will not be Sid’s last game at the Olympics.”
On Thursday morning, the Canadian coach revealed Crosby is "day-to-day" and a return to the Olympics is possible.
