College football fans reacted to the news on Instagram.
A fan said, "He should’ve stayed at Notre Dame."
"He should’ve stayed at Notre Dame", " It’s beCAUSE they hate him"Some were more sympathetic to the former Tigers' HC.
One said, "PAY THE MAN" Another wrote, "Pay that man. If they had anything on him for real… they wouldn’t be trying to negotiate with him. They may end up having to pay his buyout & more…" One chimed in, saying, "This is shockingly pathetic from LSU. They have no legal basis to assert any of the claims they’ve put forward. How the hell did the acting AD not have authority to fire kelly? So if that’s right then he’s still the coach? Obviously not. And then suggesting they fired him with cause after they clearly didn’t? All that LSU is doing right now is advertising to lane Kiffin and all other prospective coaches that they want nothing to do with LSU."Kelly and the LSU Tigers parted ways after over three seasons. The veteran head coach compiled a 34-14 record in Louisiana, guiding the program to multiple winning seasons and bowl games.
However, he was constantly under scrutiny for being unable to lead the powerhouse program to a national championship.
Brian Kelly's attorneys aim for a full $54 million buyout
Brian Kelly entered the college football season with loads of expectations. Additionally, the former LSU Tigers head coach had a substantial buyout clause attached to his contract.
However, a 5-3 start to the season saw LSU sever ties, and the school must now negotiate a buyout fee. However, Kelly's attorneys are suing for the full $54 million buyout. The former Tigers boss isn't ready to leave any funds on the negotiating table.
According to Sports Illustrated, Kelly has turned down settlement offers of $25 million and $30 million. The report notes that Kelly may be open to a settlement, but has yet to accept a formal offer to date.
The LSU Tigers lost in their first game since Kelly's termination. The Alabama Crimson Tide beat them, and the Tigers now have a 5-4 record entering the final stretch of games.
