Should Spike Lee Get a Knicks Championship Ring? Here's the Debate

Prince Harry, Timothée Chalamet and More Stars Who Witnessed Knicks’ Historic Championship Win

Will the New York Knicks give Spike Lee a shot at a championship ring?

That’s the question now at the center of the court. While the Knicks already took home the title by beating the San Antonio Spurs in the 2026 NBA Finals—ending their 53-year drought—some have argued the legendary filmmaker should get the celebratory bling along with the players.

After all, Spike has been a devout Knicks supporter for decades. Not only has the director held season tickets since 1985, but he’s also honored in the Basketball Hall of Fame for being a superfan.

And you can include Kevin Hart on the roster of celebrities who think Spike should be recognized for his loyalty.

"Give Spike a New York Knicks championship ring," the comedian said in a June 14 Instagram post. "That motherf--ker has been there for 76 years in the front row. Spike has spent $17 million on New York Knick tickets. Give Spike a f--king ring, man."

And he isn’t the only one who’s Team Spike. "I completely support this for Spike Lee," sports analyst Stephen A Smith wrote on X. "No Knicks' fan deserves this more than him."

Sportscaster Dick Vitale gave him an assist, too. "I agree with Kevin Hart - yes the LOYALTY of SPIKE LEE to the @nyknicks should be recognized & rewarded- Spike is truly a dedicated & genuine LOYAL Knicks fan," he wrote. "YES I agree with Kevin - SPIKE should get a Championship ring!"

Still, some didn’t consider giving Spike a ring a slam-dunk move.

"No!!!" one social media user wrote on X. "Bottom line is he is not a player! Players win Championships, not celebrities!! Give him a plaque or the key to the city! Rings are reserved for the players and coaches only!!!”

Agreed another, "BS. There are many non-celebrity fans that have supported their teams for years and didn't get anything. Keep the celebrity status out of it.”

Chimed in a third, "Tired of the celebrity treatment. Plenty of Knicks fans put their lives and money into that team.”

And Spike counts himself as a member of that crew. Though he’s often seated courtside in the coveted Celebrity Row at Madison Square Garden, he’s noted he doesn’t get them for free (Fellow courtside attendee Ben Stiller recently admitted on Inside the NBA that he has been gifted the seats by the organization).

"I pay for my seats," Spike recently told NBA on ESPN. "I don’t think myself a celebrity. I’m a filmmaker. I’m an artist. It’s different when your feet are on the wood.”

And if you’re wondering just how much his tickets cost, it was revealed on a 2020 episode of Stephen's show First Take that Spike paid about $300,000 for a pair for the year including preseason—or about $10 million for the past 30 years when factoring in inflation.

However, Spike isn’t the only star the Knicks have on their team of fans. To see a few more, keep reading.

Ben Stiller

You could never sever Ben Stiller's tie to the Knicks. In fact, the Severance director said that if he could choose between winning an Oscar or having the team take the championship title, he'd pick the latter.

"I really think, at the end of the day, if I knew that I had the choice, I would give it to the Knicks," he said on New Heights in 2025, "because I knew at least I had the choice in this weird, non-real situation."

Spike Lee

Spike Lee is a longtime Knicks superfan and believes the 2025-2026 roster has what it takes to secure the trophy.

"I don’t care about San Antonio. OKC,” the filmmaker told the New York Post in May 2026. “We’re going to win.”

Anne Hathaway

Is Anne Hathaway wearing the  Chanel boots Knicks colors? Yeah, she is. The Devil Wears Prada star showed where her loyalties lie by donning an orange and blue pocket square to The Tonight Show in April 2026.

"I’m very chill," she told host Jimmy Fallon about her fandom. "I’m very loving and calm. But I’m also the type of fan that I considered wearing an OG jersey out here today."
