Should GTA 6 have traffic rules as a feature?

In both trailers of GTA 6, we see a lot more dense and realistic traffic. Since there is a massive time gap between GTA 5 and 6, many are expecting the traffic to be close to real life. However, when it comes to players driving around in the game, they would not really want to follow traffic rules.

Hence, an argument can be made that GTA 6 should not have traffic rules as a feature. Here's why.

Reason why GTA 6 should not have traffic rules as a feature

Ever since GTA was first released in 1997, players have experienced an open-world environment where they can do various kinds of activities. One of them was entering a car and driving it around town. Since the game was based on crime, players usually had fun driving fast and not really following any traffic rules.

This kind of gameplay became a popular aspect of future Grand Theft Auto titles as well. Several missions themselves forced or encouraged players to break traffic rules and cause chaos on the road. Some of the funniest in-game clips and moments were captured when players were doing bizarre and hilarious stunts on regular roads.

In GTA 5 Online, fans got the opportunity to drive around with friends, creating custom street races, and causing havoc in the streets of Los Santos.

Hence, because of all these reasons, it is safe to say that many might not enjoy traffic rules in GTA 6, even though it would feel a lot more realistic than previous titles.

How GTA 6 could implement traffic rules as a feature

Though I do not feel GTA 6 should have traffic rules as a feature, Rockstar Games could make it optional.

They can add this feature in a different difficulty tier, which will force players to mostly follow traffic rules to avoid lower wanted levels. If players want a casual experience, they can choose an easy or normal mode. But those who want a more realistic experience and immerse themselves in the game can choose harder difficulties, which come with traffic rules as well.

For the online game, Rockstar Games can create more realistic RP servers where players are required to follow traffic rules and live in a different manner. This can be possible since the company has acquired cfx.re, the team behind FiveM and RedM that create and curate RP servers for GTA and Red Dead Online.
