Two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani signed a 10-year, $700 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers in December 2023.
At the time, it was the largest contract in sports history. Juan Soto's $765 million agreement with the New York Mets now makes him the top earner.
Although Ohtani doesn't take home nearly as much money as Soto does per year, at least on the field.
Through the 2034 season, the first player in Major League history to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in a season will earn just $2 million to play baseball. An agreement in Ohtani's contract features deferrals that will pay him $68 million per year until 2043.
Ohtani's endorsement deals make up a huge portion of his earnings.

According to Sportico, Ohtani made $100 million from sponsorships and endorsements, joining sports stars Tiger Woods, Stephen Curry, and Roger Federer as the only other three athletes to reach the threshold while active in their sport.
Shohei Ohtani's single-year endorsement tally is more than any other athlete in the history of sports.

Ohtani reportedly has agreements with 20 brand partners, including Hugo Boss and Fanatics. In 2026, Sportico projects the global star will earn $125 million in endorsements.
It's safe to say Ohtani is unbothered by the deferred money in his contract with the Dodgers. It'll be there waiting for him for the next eight years.
