The shocking circumstances behind Savannah Guthrie’s mom’s alleged abduction from her million-dollar rural Arizona home would suggest that more than one perpetrator is involved in the crime, according to an ex-NYPD hostage negotiator.
Wallace Zeins told CNN late Tuesday that the purported ransom note for Nancy Guthrie, 84, which demanded a bumper cryptocurrency payment, may offer clues relating to the identities of the suspected kidnappers.
Desperate Arizona cops put out an appeal to the alleged abductor, but Zeins believes there may not be just one bad actor responsible.
“I believe the possibility of more than one person. She’s 150 pounds, 5’5, waking up in the middle of the night, not in the best of health – can’t walk or run, so I would think there’s more than one person involved in this particular crime,” Zeins said before analyzing the purported ransom note.
“What does that tell you, it tells you that it’s some type of group that knows what Bitcoin is all about, and social media, and they know the system.”
The ransom note also supposedly included details about the crime scene left behind at Nancy’s home, according to TMZ.
It’s not known if the ransom note was handwritten. If it were scribed, then it would have to go through forensic testing, according to Zeins.
“If it was on a computer, then that helps also because the FBI is so good at what they do when it comes down to electronic surveillance and electronic stuff of that nature, then they will be able to further that investigation,” he said.
Nancy, who requires critical medication every 24 hours, was reported missing on Sunday and Pima County cops fear she was abducted.
Investigators have not found any evidence to suggest her disappearance was targeted.
“At this point, there is no credible information indicating this was a targeted incident,” the agency told KSAZ.
Cops confirmed that the ransom note reports are being probed seriously and have been forwarded over to detectives.
“Anything that comes in, goes directly to our detectives who are coordinating with the FBI,” the force said.
President Trump has vowed to offer federal assistance in a bid to help resolve the case, and he promised to call “Today” star Savannah.
In the note, first sent to TMZ, the alleged kidnappers demanded millions of dollars in Bitcoin.
It also implied that something sinister would happen if the payment wasn’t made.
Meanwhile, blood spatters were found outside Nancy’s Catalina Hills home and part of a Ring doorbell camera was missing.
FBI agents visited the home of Savannah’s sister, Annie, on Tuesday. Annie was the last person who saw Nancy before the matriarch vanished. The pair had dinner together and Nancy returned home at around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Nancy was reported missing by her family around noon Sunday after failing to show up for a service.
When cops searched her home, they found her Apple Watch and a law enforcement source said her pacemaker stopped syncing with the device at around 2 a.m. Sunday.
